Board Game of the Week: Splendour

This part is ripped straight from BoardGameGeek.com:

Splendor is a game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you're wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige.
On your turn, you may (1) collect chips (gems), or (2) buy and build a card, or (3) reserve one card. If you collect chips, you take either three different kinds of chips or two chips of the same kind. If you buy a card, you pay its price in chips and add it to your playing area. To reserve a card—in order to make sure you get it, or, why not, your opponents don't get it—you place it in front of you face down for later building; this costs you a round, but you also get gold in the form of a joker chip, which you can use as any gem.
All of the cards you buy increase your wealth as they give you a permanent gem bonus for later buys; some of the cards also give you prestige points. In order to win the game, you must reach 15 prestige points before your opponents do.

What I can tell you is that the game is super clean looking, requiring little reading once understood, and it can be played quite a few times. It accommodates up to 4 players, and has been doing the rounds these past few weeks to great acclaim from Kris and company.

Pathfinder cancelled for tonight, September 5th...

But don't worry, there's plenty of Pathfinder action coming to Ottawa this month.

This Saturday, Chris Rothwell is running a Pathfinder scenario at Fandom II. Drop by or give them a call at 613-236-2972. In addition, September 28th will play host to a new Pathfinder Game Day here in Ottawa, hosted at Ottawa Sword School. Visit www.ontariopathfinders.com to find out more about that shin-dig. More Pathfinder stuff will be coming soon to uOttawa.

Also, a big shout-out to all the new folks who came and played D&D Encounters last night!

Finally, I'm looking into hosting MOBA Tuesday's, and I'm working with the University to figure out what the best venue for this sort of thing is. If you have any ideas, drop me a line!

Dealing with Spam

Hey folks!

I realize that everyone's been getting a lot of messages over the past few weeks/months/years from events from this group, some of which you don't really care about.

My solution is this: If you want info about a specific type of event: Board Games, Dungeons and Dragons, or Magic the Gathering - send me (Kyle) a message, and I will add you to a specific distribution list.

I'll keep my send outs to a limited population of people this way, and hopefully not bug the hell out of you.

In addition, new memberships are going to be available this Friday! Yay!

Elections are going to be the last Friday of the month. There are four positions you can apply for: President, Treasurer, V.P. Boardgames and V.P. RPGs.

Get your geek on,
Kyle

Updated Executive. Adam is finally up there.
Sean  - I need a new picture of you!

Updated front page: Now this blog is fed onto there! Whooppee!
Links to the facebook and yahoo. Now to get the facebook group going.

I wonder how things are going to go.

Needed: A few things: I have created some posters, but I am waiting for a few certain companies to reply with permission to use their licensed pictures/properties.

We need more dungeon masters, so we can host most LFR days. Recuitment campaign, anyone?

I also think we need a new logo, something to brighten the visual identity of our group. Or perhaps retrofit our old one to accomodate our growing needs?
